Deck the Halls

A classic carol, and one of the people ever preferred. First, a funny approach by the Angry Birds. Secondly, one more updated version...

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la la la la!
'Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la la la la!
Don we now our gay apparel, Fa la la la la la la la!
Troll the ancient Yuletide carol, Fa la la la la la la la!

See the blazing yule before us, Fa la la la la la la la!
Strike the harp and join the chorus, Fa la la la la la la la!
Follow me in merry measure, Fa la la la la la la la!
While I tell of Yuletide treasure, Fa la la la la la la la!

Fast away the old year passes, Fa la la la la la la la!
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses, Fa la la la la la la la!
Sing we joyous all together! Fa la la la la la la la!
Heedless of the wind and weather, Fa la la la la la la la!

What if have an eye at the tune? Do you dare?

Enjoy one of the most famous carols and sing along...

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square
In the frosty air.

What a bright time, it's the right time
To rock the night away

Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh
Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock

Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell rock

From Your Valentine

Saint Valentine was a bishop who lived in the third century in Rome who fight against Emperor Claudius II who banned marriages.

The History Of Saint Valentine's Day - Animated Narration

2000 years ago, the most powerful army in the world belonged to the Romans. The Romans were so strong that they conquered almost all of Europe, and parts of Asia and Africa. Then they began to grow rich and a little bit lazy. Life in the army was harsh, and many of the soldiers longed for the comforts of home. They wanted to get married and set up families. The Emperor, whose name was Claudius the Second, was worried that his army was growing soft; so he made a law that no soldier was allowed to get married.

By that time, many of the Romans were Christians – and one of their leaders was a Bishop called Valentine.

He believed that if a man and woman fell in love with each other, they should get married – and so he decided to let soldiers get married in his church, even though it was now against the law. The soldiers’ weddings were meant to be kept secret, but as you know, all secrets are hard to keep, and soon the word got out. Valentine was arrested and brought before the emperor who demanded that he stop helping soldiers to marry, and instead that he pray to the gods of Rome. When he refused, the emperor sentenced him to death.

While Valentine was in prison, the jailer’s daughter used to bring him his food. She was a young woman who unfortunately was blind. She and Valentine used to spend long hours talking to each other, and they fell in love. One day, Valentine put his hand through the bars of his cell and touched the lids of her closed eyes. When she opened them again, she could see. It was a miracle.

Valentine’s execution was set for February the 14th. On his last night on earth, he wrote his final message to the girl. He signed his love letter, “From your Valentine”. This took place in the year 270, and ever since, lovers have sent each other messages on February the 14th with the same signature.

Ebenezer Scrooge is a greedy businessman who thinks only of making money. For him, Christmas is, in his own words, a humbug. It has been seven years since his friend and partner, Jacob Marley, died. On Christmas Eve, Marley's ghost visits him and tells him he is to be visited during the night by three spirits. The Ghost of Christmas Past revisits some of the main events in Scrooge's life to date, including his unhappy childhood, his happy apprenticeship to Mr. Fezziwig who cared for his employees, and the end of his engagement to a pretty young woman due to growing love of money. The Ghost of Christmas Present shows him how joyously is nephew Fred and his clerk, Bob Cratchit, celebrate Christmas with those they love, with a especial focus on Tim, Bob's son, who is seriously ill. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows him what he will leave behind after he is gone and he is given the chance to change his way of living and save himself and others from his terrible fate. Scrooge awakens on Christmas morning, a new man intent on doing good and celebrating the season with all of those around him.

All I Want for Christmas

All I want for Christmas it's you is an old song performed for the first time by singer Mariah Carey. This season, the song has been updated and released as a duet by Mariah Carey herself an Justin Bieber. Let's review this new version, with even new lyrics.

[Justin]
I just can't wait

[Mariah]
I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
And I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree

[Mariah]
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas Day

[Mariah]
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas
Is you
You, baby

[Justin]
Oh, I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow
And I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe

[Justin]
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeer click

[Justin]
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do?
Cause baby all I want for Christmas is you
You

[Mariah & Justin]
Oh-ho, all the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children
Laughter fills the air

[Mariah & Justin]
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need?
Won't you please bring my baby to me?
Yeah

[Mariah]
Oh, I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just wanna see my baby (Yeahhh)
Standing right outside my door

[Mariah]
Oh I just want you for my own

[Justin]
For my own
Baby

[Mariah]
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true

[Mariah & Justin]
Baby all I want for Christmas is
You baby

All I want for Christmas is you baby
All I want for Christmas is you baby
All I want for Christmas is you baby

Candyman, The Man Who Killed Halloween

One of the most famous urban legends related to Halloween is that of the poisoned candies while kids go out trick or treating.

But is there any truth behibd this story?

On Halloween night 1974, perhaps the worst Halloween crime in living memory occurred. Father-of-two Ronald O'Bryan laced candy with cyanide and poisoned his son earning him the name The Candyman.

That night, Ronald O'Bryan, a father from suburban Deer Park, Texas, who had volunteered to take his son and friends trick-or-treating in nearby Pasadena, fatally poisoned his 8-year-old son Timothy with a Pixy Stix laced with cyanide. At trial, it was found that O'Bryan had opened the Stix, added the cyanide and stapled it back shut.

Four other friends were also given the poisoned Stix, which O'Bryan claimed had been given to the boys while trick-or-treating at a darkened home.

None of the other boys ingested the candy, though one was found asleep that night with the candy in his hand; he had been unable to remove O'Bryan's staple.

Prosecutors said O'Bryan pushed his son into eating the candy before going to bed Halloween night. After complaining of the bitter taste, the boy went to bed, but moments later he began vomiting. By the time he was taken to a nearby hospital, Timothy had died.

Two days after the boy's burial, an insurance agent discovered that O'Bryan had taken out a $40,000 life insurance policy on each of his children prior to Timothy's death, unbeknownst to their mother.

A jury convicted O'Bryan of murder in less than an hour. He was executed in 1984 by lethal injection.
His fellow prisoners had named him the "Candy Man." Many longtime people still remember him as the man who killed Halloween.

Donald Duck - Trick Or Treat - 1952

Trick or Treat is a 1952 animated short film produced by Walt Disney. This cartoon, which takes place on Halloween night, follows a series of pranks between Donald Duck and his nephews. The film introduced the song Trick or Treat for Halloween which was written by Paul J. Smith and performed by The Mellowmen.

Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat for Halloween
Better give a treat that's good to eat
If you want to keep life serene

Trick or Treat (Trick or Treat)
Trick or Treat (Trick or Treat)
Trick or Treat the whole night through
Little scalawags
With fiendish gags
Can make it tough on you

So when ghosts and goblins by the score
Ring the bell on your front door
Better not be stingy or
Your nightmares will come true

Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat for Halloween
When the pumpkin shells
Cast evil spells
Your little white house turns green
Your little white house turns green
Your little white house turns green

Every post
Is a ghost
If you've got a witch's brew
And if you want your gate to circulate
Ho ho! We can do that too!

Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat for Halloween
When ghosts and goblins by the score
Ring the bell on your front door
You'd better not be stingy or
Your nightmares will come true

So when ghosts and goblins by the score
Ring your bell or pound your door
Better not be stingy or…

Saint George Day Facts

St George's Day is celebrated on 23rd April each year. It's also a good time to think about one of England's most famous men, William Shakespeare, who was not only born on 23rd April 1564 but also died on 23rd April 1616.

St George (famous for slaying the dragon) is the patron saint of England. He was a Roman soldier who protested against the Roman torture of Christians, and was killed for his beliefs. He is most famous for the story of his fight against the dragon.

Sant Jordi (St George) was named the patron saint of Catalonia in 1456, although he had been venerated here from the eighth century.

For this festival it is traditional to give a rose and a book to one you love. The tradition of giving a rose comes from the medieval custom of celebrating a Rose Fair in Barcelona. April 23rd is the day when William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes, very significant writers, died, both in 1626. So, Spain’s Day of the Book was changed in 1930 from October 7th to this date.
