Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a fictional reindeer with a glowing red nose. He is popularly known as "Santa's 9th Reindeer" and, when depicted, is the lead reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve. The luminosity of his nose is so great that it illuminates the team's path through inclement winter weather.

The following is a version of Rudolph' famous carol by Destiny's Child:

You know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen,

The most famous reindeer of all

Do They Know It's Christmas?

"Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a song written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984 to raise money for relief of 1984–1985 famine in Ethiopia. The original version was produced by Midge Ure, and released by Band Aid on 29 November 1984.

The song became the biggest selling single in UK singles chart history, selling a million in the first week alone. It stayed at Number 1 for five weeks and ultimately sold more than 3.5 million copies domestically.

Phil Collins

Phil Collins is one of the most important pop musicians ever. Apart from his solo career, he has been front man, drummer and keyboard player of the band Genesis during its most successful years. He has also participated in several films as an actor and as the music composer.

Here you have a sample of his music:

Nelson Mandela

"I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunity. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But, if need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die".

Nelson Mandela was born in Transkei, South Africa, on July 18, 1918. He was one of the most well-known anti-apartheid activists in South Africa. He was jailed in 1964 for leading the liberation movement against apartheid and for his stance on the human right to live in freedom. After his release from prison in 1990, Nelson Mandela continued addressing racial issues in his country and supported reconciliation initiatives. His efforts resulted in him becoming elected as South Africa’s president in 1994. He remained in office as president until 1999. He also won the Nobel Prize of Peace in 1993. Unfortunately, Mandela died of a lung infection following a long illness at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg, on 5 December 2013.

Mandela Day

The first Mandela Day was held to celebrate Mandela's 90th birthday in June 2.008.

Nelson Mandela International Day, also known as Mandela Day, is held on July 18 each year. The day remembers Mandela’s achievements in working towards conflict resolution, democracy, human rights, peace, and reconciliation.

Mandela Day not only celebrates Nelson Mandela’s life, but it is also a global call to action for people to recognize their ability to have a positive effect on others around them. The day hopes to inspire people to embrace the values that Mandela shared. These values include democracy, freedom, equality, diversity, reconciliation, and respect.

Many people and organizations around the world take part in many activities to promote Nelson Mandela Day. These activities include volunteering, sport, art, education, music and culture. Various events are also held on or around July 18 to honour Nelson Mandela’s works and to promote the different projects that were inspired by Mandela’s achievements.

Simple Minds: Mandela Day

A Scottish band called Simple Minds dedicated a song to Nelson Mandela on his album from 1989 Street Fighting Years.

The Past Simple Tense: Grammar

The Past Simple expresses an action in the past taking place once, never, several times. It can also be used for actions taking place one after another or in the middle of another action.

• Most Verbs

Most verbs conjugate by adding -ed like the verb "wait" below.

Exceptions in spelling when adding -ed
after a final -e only add -d	love – loved

• Irregular Verbs

Many verbs, such as "have", take irregular forms in the Past Simple. Notice that you only use the irregular verbs in statements. In negative forms and questions, did indicates Past Simple.

• To Be

The verb "be" is also irregular in the Past Simple. Unlike other irregular verbs, there are two Past Simple forms: "was" and "were." It also has different question forms and negative forms. Always remember that you DO NOT use did with the verb to be in the Past Simple.
